Priority inspection areas in this example

Drone map of an orchard block shown as natural-colour RGB imagery, as NDVI and NDRE vegetation maps and as the four single bands (green, red, red edge, near-infrared). Four spots where the canopy is thinner than in the surrounding rows are circled as priority inspection areas.

What You Receive From a Field Survey

TheFarmDrone provides agricultural drone mapping for growers, farm managers, PCA specialists and agronomists in California. Outputs can include RGB imagery, photomaps, NDVI maps, inspection coordinates, reports and optional soil sampling.

  1. RGB Photomap

High-resolution visual imagery of the whole field.

  2. NDVI Map

Shows relative vegetation differences across the field.

  3. Inspection Points

Coordinates of priority areas that may deserve ground inspection.

  4. Field Report

Maps, coordinates and observations for discussion with a PCA or agronomist.

Common Uses for Drone Field Mapping

In each case the map shows where to look. People on the ground make the call.

Use case 01

Find areas worth inspecting

  1. Drone survey
  2. Vegetation difference
  3. Inspection coordinates
  4. PCA or agronomist ground check

An area can look different on the NDVI map. We mark it and give you its coordinates. A specialist checks it on the ground and determines the cause. The map shows where to look — not why.

Use case 02

Compare the field over time

  1. First survey
  2. Repeat survey
  3. Updated inspection points

A repeat survey brings a new photomap and NDVI map, a comparison with earlier data, updated inspection points and a short report. You see where differences persist, improve or appear.

Before survey

02
Close-up of spot 02: open ground where a tree crown is expected, with two young replants
Spot 02. Largest opening in the block. 15% canopy cover, 79% around it.

After survey

02
Simulated close-up of spot 02 at a repeat survey: a young tree fills the gap
Simulated
Canopy closing. Example outcome: the ground check found the young replants short of water. After the irrigation repair the gap fills in.

Use case 03

Target soil sampling

  1. Drone map
  2. Areas of interest
  3. Soil sampling
  4. Laboratory
  5. PCA or agronomist

Sample where the map shows a difference, not at random. The starting package includes up to three composite soil samples, their coordinates, sample registration and delivery to a laboratory.

How Agricultural Drone Mapping Works

We agree the scope and price before we fly.

  1. Send the field

Location, approximate acreage, crop, and the task or known issue.

  2. We fly

Drone survey and image capture of the whole field.

  3. We process

Photomap, vegetation layers, and the areas worth checking.

  4. + If ordered

    Soil sampling

Samples in agreed zones, with coordinates, prepared for the lab.

  5. You get the data

Maps, coordinates and a report for you, your PCA or agronomist.

Questions About Drone Field Mapping

Does the NDVI map tell me what is wrong with my crop?

No. NDVI shows relative differences in vegetation across the field. It points to areas that should be checked on the ground. The cause is determined by you, your PCA or your agronomist.

How much does a field survey cost?

Field mapping starts from $300. Mapping with soil sampling starts from $450. Laboratory analysis and delivery to the lab are charged separately. The final price depends on the field and the task, and we agree it before flying.

Where do you work?

We operate from Los Angeles and cover fields within about 250 miles, including the Fresno direction by agreed route.

What files will I receive?

Depending on the package: GeoTIFF and PDF maps, inspection point coordinates in CSV, descriptions of highlighted zones and a short report.
